Academic & General IELTS

What’s the difference between Academic Reading and General Training Reading?

There are two types of the IELTS exam: Academic and General Training. As you may know, you should take IELTS Academic test if you’re going to study abroad. But if you’re intending to work abroad or apply for Permanent Residency (PR), then you should take IELTS General Test. The Reading and Writing sections (but not Speaking and Listening) are quite different between the two types of IELTS exams. Although in both types of tests candidates have to answer 40 questions, there is a significant difference in the number and the content of reading passages. You will know more about it in next sections.

The Reading section is designed to test a wide range of reading skills. These include reading for gist, reading for main ideas, reading for detail, skimming, understanding logical argument and recognising writers’ opinions, attitudes and purpose.
